Genetic edge thrives under a good sports culture among the Warli, Katkari and Malhar Koli tribes of Palghar district in Maharashtra.
It was 3 days well-spent in a small village in Palghar district and it reinforced my notions about the immense sporting potential lying dormant in the many villages of this country- capable of bringing success and pride to this country.
First on my agenda was the testing of around 50-60 tribal kids who had been hand-picked by the local sports teachers of the school I visited. This was a cue for the baseline data which will be collected further in this project and I was over the moon with the results I saw!
They were clearly genetically blessed with low heart-rates making them ideal for endurance sports like middle-distance and long-distance running - not surprising since they walk an average of 4 kms each day to school. Another distinct talent they showed was for archery.
It was easy to reach the conclusions of my initial study and I am so psyched to come back soon with my team and collect some solid data to push the project further.
Of course it will have to be soon, since Paris is calling in 2024! :)
